What 'Jain food' means on our tours
Every meal is prepared without:
- Onion, garlic, ginger
- Potato and underground root vegetables (suran, kand, carrot, beetroot, radish)
- Mushroom, brinjal (per traditional Jain practice)
We use rock salt, asafoetida (compounded with Jain guidelines) and traditional spice blends. Pre-fermented items are avoided.
Our own cooks, not the hotel's
On most domestic group tours, our Marwari cooks travel with the group. That means the same hands prepare your meals at the houseboat in Srinagar, the camp at Pangong Lake and the dharamshala in Kedarnath. The taste, the Jain-compliance and the hygiene stay consistent.

Frequently asked questions
Is Jain food guaranteed on every Kanaiya Travels tour?
Yes — Jain meals are guaranteed when requested at booking. There is no extra cost. On domestic group tours our cook travels with the group; on international tours we either travel with a cook or use verified Jain-friendly Indian kitchens.
Do you serve onion and garlic-free meals on all hotels?
On group tours, yes — because the food is prepared by our own team, not the hotel. On private customised tours, we coordinate with each hotel kitchen in advance.
Can I get Jain breakfast also?
Yes — breakfast, lunch and dinner are all Jain on request. We carry our own breakfast items (poha, upma, thepla, khakhra) when hotel breakfast is not Jain-compliant.
